Imagine carrying a bucket full of water across a desert. You work hard to fill that bucket. You pay for ads. You post on social media. You network at events. Every drop of water represents a potential customer you fought to get.

But what if that bucket has five small holes in the bottom?

By the time you reach your destination, the bucket is half empty. You did all the work to get the water, but your container failed you.

This is exactly what is happening to 90% of business websites right now. They are leaking money.

You do not need to be a tech genius to fix this. You just need to run this simple five point self audit. Open your website in a new tab and check these five signs right now.

Sign 1: The Five Second Confusion

Open your homepage. Look at the very first screen without scrolling. Now answer this honestly.

Can a complete stranger understand exactly what you do and who you help within five seconds?

If your headline says something vague like "Empowering Your Future" or "Solutions for Tomorrow," you are losing money. Customers do not pay for clever slogans. They pay for clarity.

If they have to read three paragraphs to figure out if you are a plumber or a financial advisor, they are already gone.

Sign 2: The Thumb Test Failure

Pull out your smartphone. Open your website.

Try to navigate your site using only one thumb while holding the phone in one hand.

Is the menu easy to tap? Is the phone number clickable? Do you have to pinch and zoom to read the text?

Over 60% of web traffic is mobile. If your site is just a shrunken version of your desktop site, you are frustrating more than half of your visitors. If they cannot tap it, they will not buy it.

Sign 3: The Hidden Contact Information

Pretend you are in a rush. You want to call your business right now.

How long does it take to find your phone number?

Is it buried on a "Contact Us" page? is it in the tiny footer text at the very bottom?

Your phone number should be visible in the top right corner of every single page. It should be a clickable button. If a customer has to hunt for a way to give you money, they will often just give up.

Sign 4: The Loading Wheel of Death

Click a link on your site. Count to three.

One. Two. Three.

Did the page load completely before you finished counting?

If the answer is no, Google is penalizing you. Amazon found that every 100 milliseconds of delay cost them 1% in sales. You are not Amazon, but the rule still applies. A slow site tells customers that your service will also be slow and painful.

Sign 5: The Generic "Submit" Button

Go to your contact form. Look at the button at the bottom.

Does it just say "Submit" or "Send"?

This is a conversion killer. "Submit" sounds like homework. It sounds like giving up control.

High converting websites use action oriented language. Change that button to "Get My Free Quote" or "Book My Strategy Call" or "Start My Project." Tell them exactly what they get when they click.

How Did You Score?

Did you find one leak? Two leaks? All five?

Do not panic. These problems are common, but they are expensive. Every day you wait to fix them is another day you donate leads to your competition.
